Apples are high in antioxidant micronutrient compounds called Polyphenols.
Polyphenols are prebiotic which means they balance the bacteria in the digestive tract. They also reduce glucose absorption in the gut so they help prevent and reduce the progression of diseases like diabetes.
The old saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" is a great deal more accurate than many people realize!
